I’ve lost count of how many people have told me some version of this:
“I messaged so many people on LinkedIn asking for a referral. Zero replies.”
“Someone offered to help… then ghosted me.”
“They replied but the listing was already closed.”

Let’s be clear: the platforms themselves are not the issue. LinkedIn is designed for professional branding and networking. Communities like Blind or Reddit were built for anonymous discussion and peer advice. They weren’t created with referrals in mind – so when people seek help there, the response often falls short.

And for others, the experience is even tougher:
- Point blank rejections: “I don’t do referral.”
- Rude or dismissive replies
- Requests for money before offering help

- Straight-up scams pretending to offer help to get your personal info
